Creating a Push-In Shot

A push-in effect smoothly zooms into a subject over time.

  1. Set the Starting Point: Move your playhead (red line) on the timeline to where you want the push-in movement to begin.

  2. Open the Keyframe Tab & Inspector: Navigate to the top panel and select the Keyframe tab. In the Inspector on the right, locate the Transform section.

  3. Set Initial Keyframes: Click the diamond icon next to Position and Zoom to lock in your starting keyframe values.

  4. Set the Ending Point: Drag your playhead across the timeline to the exact frame where you want the push-in movement to end.

  5. Add End Keyframes & Adjust: Click the diamond icon again at the new playhead location. Then, adjust the Position and Zoom settings to scale into your subject as far as desired.

Part 2: Creating a Pull-Back Shot

A pull-back effect does the exact opposite, starting close to a subject and pulling out to reveal the wider scene.

  1. Set Initial Keyframes: Place the playhead where you want the movement to start and click the diamond icons for Position and Zoom.

  2. Start Zoomed In: Set the initial keyframe values to be zoomed in and repositioned on your focus area.

  3. Set the Final Keyframe: Scroll down the timeline to where the movement should end and create another keyframe.

  4. Return to Normal Framing: Reset or adjust the Position and Zoom values on the last keyframe back to normal wider framing.
